Salary: £15,457 pro-rata

Saltscape, a Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Scheme is looking for a Community Engagement Trainee to join our team. The placement is designed for a recent graduate and will provide vital workplace based experience and mentoring for a future career in the environment or heritage sector.

Saltscape seeks to highlight the distinctive character of the Weaver Valley landscape which has been shaped by the presence of underground salt and human interaction with it through history. The valley is home to an abundance of specialist habitats, geology and wildlife, normally associated with coastal habitats and limestone areas. The scheme aims to conserve, restore and improve access to the area’s natural habitats and industrial heritage. The total value of the scheme is £1.5m.

During the placement you will work alongside project staff and partner organisations to gain hands-on training and opportunities to develop your skills and confidence. Supported at every step by our team, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop skills in countryside management, surveying, community engagement and project management. You will have extensive on-the-job training, as well as access to external training courses. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the operation and logistics of delivering a landscape partnership programme.

Educated to degree level in a conservation or heritage related subject you will have:

  • Experience working with volunteers
  • An understanding of conservation issues and/or the challenges faced by heritage sites
  • Enthusiasm for interpretation and community engagement.

The post is part time for a fixed term of 12 months; funded by the Heritage Lottery.
