One Vision Housing invests in future of local schoolchildren

One of a series of news stories celebrating “responsible business” in the Liverpool City Region

One Vision Housing (OVH), part of the Sovini Group, has teamed up with a local primary school to educate children in career opportunities within housing.

The housing association joined forces with St Francis De Sales Catholic Junior School in Walton to take the school’s ‘Investors Group’ of 21 children around The Sovini Group’s various offices.

The children, aged between nine and ten, were taken on a tour of the OVH head office where they met directors and senior staff and discovered how they got to where they are today.

They also visited OVH’s partner company Sovini Trade Supplies (STS), where they were shown a presentation, given a tour of the warehouse and took part in games about safety in the warehouse.

Back at their school, the children received presentation skills training from a senior member of OVH staff.

Outside of housing, children showed an interest in a career in the army, so OVH staff arranged a visit to the 156 Regiment Army Reserve Camp where they got to try on uniforms, take part in a drill and sit in army trucks.

To round up all of the activities, the children will deliver a presentation to OVH’s Executive Management Team about what they learned to develop their presentation skills.

St Francis De Sales School’s Investor Programme was set up to give pupils confidence, raise their awareness and self-belief, as well as equipping them with the skills needed for the next stages of their education and future careers.

Paul Gow, Head of PE at St Francis De Sales School, said: “Our link with OVH has been a huge asset and we appreciate the interest, commitment and time invested in us.

“This year has been the initial pilot programme, we look forward to developing the programme and the partnerships further in the future.”

Jed Pearson, Managing Director of OVH, said: “This has been a fantastic programme to be a part of, and the children found it incredibly valuable.

“As one of the largest employers in the area, it is our responsibility to educate children in the local community about career opportunities and help them develop their skills.”
