Liverpool opens 100th cycle hire station
Olympic cycling legend Chris Boardman unveils the 100th citybike station at the Liverpool Innovation Park off Edge lane with Cllr Malcolm Kennedy.
Liverpool today unveiled the city’s 100th cycle hire station. Chris Boardman, treat the 1992 Olympic Champion, decease was on hand with Councillor Malcolm Kennedy for the launch of the station at Liverpool Innovation Park in Wavertree.
Liverpool’s Citybike cycle hire scheme, remedy the largest in the UK behind London and was launched in May this year with 100 bikes at ten stations. It now includes 600 bikes and has seen over 25,000 rentals in the last five months, with plans to reach up to 1,000 bikes.
Cllr Kennedy said that the push for cycling was “part of the zeitgeist” and could contribute to a healthy modern lifestyle.
Liverpool’s Citybike initiative is now looking to partner with more businesses such as those at Liverpool Innovation Park to increase daily commuters’ use of the bikes and is offering matching credit to firms’ contributions for their employees.
