Introducing the Not Just Collective
Not Just brings together individuals from a number of art disciplines including painting, sovaldi drawing, prescription performance, sculpture and film. The collective was formed after the 2012 Liverpool Biennial by volunteers who believed they should also support local creative practitioners – in other words, each other – in finding ways to showcase their work.
Our first exhibition was in January 2013 at Domino Gallery, Liverpool, and since then the collective has continued to grow and develop, holding exhibitions in galleries and non-traditional spaces across the region. Reviewing our show Objections at Arena Gallery, Nerve Magazine commented, “The variety and timings of the show in the run up to the Ukraine and Crimea crisis was very prescient and gave added flavour to the works… it bubbled and tingled in all the right places, an eclectic electric kool and unhindered sumptuous feast for the senses.”
Our current exhibition, Upstream, can be seen at the Secret Terrace in Liverpool. Drawing inspiration from water, eight artists explore the character and resonances of this essential ingredient of life. The venue has also hosted a series of events throughout the duration of the exhibition, including meditation, film screenings and discussion. Upstream runs until 21st December, but we will continue our programme of engagement with events in the new year. We also hope to expand upon the theme in a larger space. Please get in touch with us if you’d be interested in hosting our next exhibition! We are also always open to enquiries from artists who would like to collaborate with us or join the collective.
