Brockholes summer 2015

Over the summer holiday’s here at Brockholes Nature Reserve we are running lots of activities for both you and your children to get involved with.

At our latest event we had parents and children travelling from Leyland, Leigh, Westhoughton, Hesketh Bank and Dublin to take part in “Jewellery Making Day” which the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

Drop-in Clay Modelling
Wed 12, 19 & 26 Aug, 10am-12pm, £3pp 

The experts from ‘Jumping Clay’ return to Brockholes! These morning sessions are ‘drop-in’, where we’ll be making pencil toppers or magnets, so no booking is needed.

Thursday Crafty Creative
Thu 13, 20 & 27 Aug, 10am-12pm & 1-4pm, small charges per activity

Come along and get creative as we open up our arts and crafts store for you every Thursday throughout the school holidays! Each week there will be drop-in craft activities with a nature or environmental theme for all the family to enjoy.

Chrissy’s Craft Workshops
Mon 17 & 24 Aug, 1-3pm, £5-£7.50pp

Join us for a series of fun, creative workshops lead by eco-artist and qualifies craft tutor Chrissy Webster. Each workshop has a different theme and they are as follows:

17 Aug – Animal Sculptures (£5pp)
24 Aug – Silk painting (£7.50pp)

Wild Families: Spy Day
Tue 18 Aug, 2-4pm, £4pp/£14 family of four
Come and find out if you have what it takes to be a top class spy! As a family you will work together to de-code our special top secret plans, at this test of your spy skills. Pre-booking is essential, call 01772 872000 to do so.

Clay Modelling Workshops
19 & 26 Aug, 1-2pm, £8pp

These Wednesday afternoon sessions are run by the talented experts from ‘Jumping Clay’ and the tutors will teach you how to make one of their fantastic models from mess-free air drying clay. We will be making:

Wild Families: Superworm
Fri 21 Aug, 10am-12pm, £4pp/£14 family of four

Come along and meet Superworm and his friends! Watch our puppet show and then get out onto the reserve as we go for a mini-beast hunt. Pre-booking is essential, call 01772 872000 to do so.

Wild Families: Photo Scavenger Hunt
Tue 25 Aug, 2-4pm, £4pp/£14 family of four
Explore our nature reserve as we challenge you to find and photograph everything on our list! Please note each team will need either a digital camera or a mobile phone. Pre-booking is essential, call 01772 872000 to do so.

Wild Families: Stick Man
Fri 28 Aug, 2-4pm, £4pp/£14 family of four

Come along and enjoy an afternoon of stick related activity, all based on the popular Julia Donaldson tale Stick Man! Pre-booking is essential, call 01772 872000 to do so.


We also offer a series of regular FREE guided walks that will teach you about the reserve and thanks to our ever-changing reserve, no two walks here at Brockholes are ever the same.

Here are our regular walks:

Pram Walk
Every Tuesday, 10-11am, FREE

Join us for a brisk one hour walk around the reserve, on pram friendly paths. The aim is to keep fit and get out in the fresh air, enjoy some exercise and improve your own health, as well as meeting and chatting with other new parents and carers. Car parking charges apply.

Midweek Meander
Every Wednesday, 1.30-3pm, FREE

Every Wednesday you can clear those midweek blues with this fantastic guided walk around our reserve. This is a great chance to explore the reserve and is especially good for those who have not been before as you’ll hear all about recent wildlife sightings, our conservation work and our history. Meet at 1.30pm in the Welcome Centre on the Visitor Village. Car parking charges apply.

Health Walk
Every Thursday, 10-11am, FREE

The Health Walk is a brisk 1 hour health walk around our stunning nature reserve specifically designed to keep you fit and healthy.  Participants are invited to join fellow walkers for a refreshing drink in the restaurant after the walk. Car parking charges apply.
